Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti didn’t seem happy with his club’s loss against Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup at King Abdullah Sport City in Jeddah on Monday, January 13. The Barca thrashed Madrid by 5-2 in the final to secure their 15th Spanish Super League title. Apart from that, this was also Real Madrid’s first loss after seven wins and one draw in eight consecutive games across all competitions in the last one month.
After a humiliating loss against Barcelona, Carlo Ancelotti accepted that Real Madrid needed a reality check and also said that they weren’t able to defend well in low block. “We have to look at the reality, and that is that we did not defend well in the opposition half or with the low block. They scored goals very easily, and we didn’t work hard, collectively or individually,” Ancelotti was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
I can’t take anything away from it except Mbappé's performance: Carlo Ancelotti
Speaking further, Carlo Ancelotti also praised Kylian Mbappe for his fifth-minute goal that took Real Madrid to an early lead of 1-0 against Barcelona. After that, Barcelona didn’t let them make a comeback in the match and went on to score five consecutive goals. In the end, Rodrygo scored a goal in the 60th minute as the match finished at 5-2 in Barcelona’s favour.
“I can’t take anything away from it except Mbappé's performance, who scored a great goal in a good move. We have to forget about the rest and look forward,” Carlo Ancelotti said. “We lost a lot of duels. That makes us sad and disappointed, but that’s football. We have to take that sadness home. We have no option but to look forward and prepare for the next game and recover the good form we’d been in,” the Real Madrid coach added.
