Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has admitted that his team failed to perform as one unit in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the game played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 23, SRH registered a seven-wicket loss at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI). This was Hyderabad’s sixth defeat in the tournament after their eight outings. Another loss might put their campaign in peril. However, Vettori has shown faith in his team to make a comeback by taking inspiration from Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 2024 (RCB) campaign.

"IPL's been going a long time and there's been a lot of teams, who've found themselves in this situation. And there's been a few teams that have been able to resurrect their seasons, and you look back to RCB last year after a difficult start. So if we can take some inspiration from a team like them, Mumbai's done it on a few occasions. But ultimately it's gonna take one performance and we just haven't been able to put a collective performance together bar the two game,” remarked Vettori in the post-match press conference.

In 2024, RCB qualified for the playoffs after clinching only one victory in eight matches. Under Faf du Plessis, Challengers won their remaining six games in the second-half of the competition and qualified for the next round. Vettori is expecting his team to deliver something similar to that miraculous performance to SRH fans.

SRH will take on CSK in Chennai on April 25

Hyderabad’s next challenge will be against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 25. Both teams will meet each other for the first time in the competition. Chennai, the five-time title winners, have put up a miserable show for their fans thus far.

However, ahead of the game against SRH, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has shown faith in MS Dhoni’s leadership. After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s exit from the tournament, Dhoni took the reins of the side but could win only one game as a leader in three matches.
