On Sunday, December 8, West Ham United announced that their star forward Michail Antonio underwent surgery on a lower limb fracture in a central London hospital after being involved in a car accident a day ago. The 34-year-old was admitted in the hospital after his Ferrari crashed into a tree in the Essex area yesterday afternoon, following which the extent of his injuries weren’t revealed by either his club or the hospital staff at the time.

The accident involving Michail Antonio was quite a devastating one since he got trapped in it, following which the first responders, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, had to release him from his car. The officers of the Essex Police are currently investigating the car accident, as per their latest statement, wherein they had asked for witnesses and dash cam footage holders to come forward and get their statements recorded in the matter.

West Ham United wished Michail Antonio speedy recovery

West Ham United, who are slated to play against Wolves in their next match in the Premier League at home on Monday, December 9, gave the latest update about the condition of the Jamaican International, which read, “West Ham United can confirm Michail Antonio has undergone surgery on a lower limb fracture following a road traffic accident on Saturday afternoon. Michail will continue to be monitored in hospital over the coming days.”

The Premier League club wished Michail Antonio a speedy recovery apart from expressing their sincere gratitude for the support shown to their player since his car accident. They also extended “a heartfelt thank you to the emergency services and first responders who attended to Michail in the immediate aftermath of the incident, and the medical team who continue to aid him in his recovery. The Club will provide further updates when appropriate.”

Earlier, Steve McLaren, the manager of the Jamaican national football team, for whom Michail Antonio plays, also extended his support for the star forward on his road to recovery.
