The BCCI has preferred Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Shubman Gill for the role of the openers in the upcoming series.

Ruturaj Gaikwad initially debuted for India in the T20I series they played against Sri Lanka in 2021 and also won the orange cap the same year in the IPL. Further, the CSK opener played a T20I game against West Indies and five-match T20I series against South Africa in 2022. Post that, he was never included in the playing XI despite being named in the squad due to Shubman Gill's inclusion.
