World Athletics Championships 2023: India’s Jeswin Aldrin finishes 11th in men’s long jump final

National record holder and India’s top long jumper Jeswin Aldrin on Thursday finished 11th at the ongoing World Athletics Championships after securing his first long jump final berth on August 23.  Aldrin finished a 7.77m jump in the final, which was the lone legal mark he crossed at the key stage.

Talking about Aldrin’s performance in the final, his 7.77m jump came in his third attempt, which led to his elimination as only the top eight remain to compete in the final three rounds. 


Neeraj Chopra qualifies for javelin throw final with season best of 88.77m throw at World Athletics Championships 2023


The ‘Golden Boy’ of India, Neeraj Chopra qualified for the final of the World Athletics Championships after throwing his season best of 88.77m in the very first attempt on Friday, August 25. The 25-year-old Indian track and field athlete, who was put in Group A of the Qualifiers was sole to qualify in the very first attempt as even World No. 2, Germany’s Julian Weber missed by a margin with 82.39 m in his first attempt. 


Spain FA Chief Luis Rubiales to submit his resignation after kiss controversy in World Cup final: Reports

Luis Rubiales, the President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is likely to submit his resignation after FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against him.  Rubiales found himself in hot water after he kissed Spain women’s footballer Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain won their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. 

The incident provoked severe outrage within Spain and all over the world, where football fans demanded the RFEF Chief to resign. Things got more intense when the Spain player said that such incidents should never go unpunished.

Noah Lyles survives buggy collision ahead of 200m semifinal in World Championships

100m world champion Noah Lyles was involved in a buggy collision ahead of the 200m semifinal at the World Athletics Championships 2023.  The athlete was on his way to the stadium for the semifinal clash on Thursday, August 24, when the collision took place. During it, two buggies collided with each other, and one of the volunteers was thrown out of the vehicle as a result. 

Bray Wyatt passed away at the age of 36


WWE Hall of Famer Windham Rotunda, better known as Bray Wyatt, passed away at the age of 36 on August 24, Thursday.  The former WWE Champion made his debut in the wrestling world in 2009, and even though he was released in 2021 and 2022, Wyatt made a victorious return in September 2022. The WWE star was taken off WWE TV in February 2023 due to a prolonged illness. 


Jürgen Klopp rubbishes Mohamed Salah's Saudi Arabia transfer reports

Day after the reports of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's desire to leave the Premier League giants to move to Saudi Arabia,  the Reds head coach Jürgen Klopp has recently rubbished the possibility of the Egyptian forward leaving Anfield.  According to Saudi media outlet Arriyadiyah, the 31-year-old Salah has been offered a staggering $198 million contract by Al-Ittihad, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the world. The reported contract will offer Salah a salary more than what Al-Nassr pay to Cristiano Ronaldo.


HS Prannoy sails to BWF World Championships quarterfinals


India’s HS Prannoy registered his name in the history books, as he stormed into the quarter-final of the Badminton World Championships, which are currently underway in Denmark. In a tense round of 16 matches, Prannoy emerged victorious against Singapore’s star shuttler Loh Kean Yew 21-18, 15-21, 21-19. Before the match, Prannoy was ranked at No.9 in the World, whereas Loh Kean Yew was just above him at No. 7. 


Rajeshwari Kumari secures Olympic quota in  women’s trap


India’s Rajeshwari Kumari became the second Indian woman to secure an Olympic quota in women’s trap after finishing fifth in the final at the ISSF World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. However, Kumari failed to secure a medal finish for the side in her category at the World Championships, she became the seventh Indian to secure a quota in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
