Emiliano Martinez has been one of the best goalkeepers this season, winning the World Cup with Argentina and then an impressive season with Aston Villa. On a podcast, the Argentine goalkeeper talked about his antics when he stopped Bruno Fernandes' last-minute penalty during their clash with Manchester United at the Old Trafford in 2021.

The goalkeeper was on the ‘Behind The Game’ Premier League podcast along with Paulo Dybala’s partner and Argentinian model Oriana Sabatini.  The Argentine revealed the exchange of words when Manchester United got a penalty in the 92nd minute when Villa were 1-0 up.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to take the penalty and Martinez was trying to disrupt United. He saw that Cristiano Ronaldo was disappointed that he wasn’t taking it and Martinez tried to goad him The world cup winner said on the podcast "I saw Ronaldo disappointed for not taking it. And I said come on you (Ronaldo) take it now. Why is Ronaldo not shooting?" Martinez admitted that he is a ‘chatty boy’ as they talked about his strategies in a penalty shoot-out. Bruno Fernandes eventually skied the penalty and United lost the game, Emi Martinez did a little dance towards the crowd after the miss.

In the podcast, they talked about the love of football in Argentina and how Martinez made it in the sport. They talked about how Martinez felt during the World Cup win and his conversations with Messi. The goalkeepers called France a ‘mentally strong’ team when talking about the World Cup final. Martinez has evolved into one of the best shot-stoppers and has 13 clean sheets in 31 matches in the Premier League so far and can qualify for Europa League as Aston Villa are fifth with 54 points.
