The Sanju Samsom-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) are having a dream run in the ongoing IPL 2024. The Jaipur-based franchise sit comfortably at the top of the points table having won three games on the trot. In their last fixture, they beat the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
While Riyan Parag played an unbeaten knock of 54 runs, Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal were the pick of the bowlers. Seeing Chahal's brilliant form with the ball, his place in the T20 World Cup Indian squad has been one of the talks of the town. Speaking at the post-match press conference after RR’s win over MI, RR Assistant Coach Shane Bond shared a big update on the same.
The former New Zealand cricketer exclaimed that a place in T20 WC squad is a tough one, but he needs to make an impact to get into the team. “If your team is successful, you are in a winning team, selections and rewards come from that. That has more of been our focus, to forget about all that other noise from the outside and just work really hard for each other. If we do that, I have no doubt people are going to start talking like you are now about Chahal and whether he will feature in a World Cup or not. He is bowling beautifully, and if he keeps doing that, then we have got a massive chance in this tournament,” Bond said.
The Indian spinner registered impressive figures in match against MI on Monday, April 1. He scalped the crucial wickets of Tilak Varma, skipper Hardik Pandya and Gerald Coetzee to end with figures of 3/11 in his four overs. The 33-year-old sits second in the Purple Cap list in IPL 2024 with six wickets, only behind Mustafizur Rahman.
