British number one Emma Raducanu, ranked 38th in the world, fell just short of a seeding for the championships and was handed a difficult-looking draw. In an eye-catching all-British first-round match at Wimbledon, Raducanu will face teenage wildcard Mimi Xu. If Raducanu beats Xu, she will face either 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova or 32nd seed McCartney Kessler in the second round.
22-year-old Emma Raducanu could potentially be in a face-off against world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. Raducanu has never been past the fourth round at the All England before. If she is to make at least the quarter-final then the road ahead is tough for her.
According to the reports, Raducanu’s preparations for Wimbledon have not been ideal as she suffered a surprise second round defeat at Eastbourne to teenager Maya Joint. She has also been dealing with a back problem over the last few weeks that saw her withdraw from the Berlin Open.

In total, there are 10 British players in the women’s singles draw - and half of them have been pitted against seeded players. In draw for the men’s singles, World number four Jack Draper, who starts against Argentina’s 38th-ranked Sebastian Baez, also faces a daunting path to the latter stages. Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, bidding for standalone 25th major singles title, is a potential quarter-final opponent for Draper.
British qualifier Oliver Tarvet, who cannot claim prize money as he is still a college player in the United States, could meet defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the second round.
Both Raducanu and Draper lead a total of 23 British players in the singles draws - the highest number of players since 1984. Wimbledon Championship, the ultimate grass-court Grand Slam will begin at the All England Club on this Monday, June 30, 2025.
