At the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday, the Indian men's 4x400m relay team set a new Asian record and advanced to the final. In a nine-team heat 1, the Indian team of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi, and Rajesh Ramesh had a record time of 2.59.05s to finish second to the United States.
The two teams with the fastest time apart from the top three finishers from each of the two heats qualified for the final. The Indian quartet's time beat Japan's previous Asian record of 2:59.51 from the world championships in Oregon. Additionally, it beat the previous national record of 3:00.25, achieved at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by Muhammed Anas, Noah Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajiv, and Amoj Jacob.
The Indian team will now play in the final alongside giants like USA, Jamaica and Great Britain. The eight teams qualified for the finals are India, USA, Jamaica, Great Britain, Botswana, Netherlands, Italy and France.
