Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has suggested that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player MS Dhoni should walk away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) if he is failing to fulfill the Yellow Army’s requirements. CSK lost their 10th game in IPL 2025, following their defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 20. CSK disappointed their fans as they produced another lackluster batting show. Dhoni, who came to bat at number eight, batted at the strike rate of 94.12 and scored only 16 off 17. Noting the 43-year-old’s performance, the 1983 World Cup champion looked unconvinced with the veteran’s batting approach.

"Dhoni is also ageing, you can't expect too much from him. But at the same time, you can't keep coming and messing it up, if you are not able to do it, say you're not able to do it and walk away. That's a call Dhoni can only take. Whether he will continue, if he continues, then in what role: captain, wicket keeper or finisher? In all fairness, his reflexes has gone down. His knees might have given up, his fitness, reflex level everything will obviously come down. And moreover, the top order is flopping," said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.

MS Dhoni’s performance in IPL 2025

MS Dhoni has struggled as captain and batter in this competition. Donning the role of batter, he has scored only 196 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 135.17 while handling the reins of the side, he could deliver only two victories to the team in eight outings thus far.

CSK will conclude their tournament after playing their final game against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 25. The Yellow Army will look to end their campaign on a positive note by winning their last game against Shubman Gill and his men.
