Former West Indies cricketer and commentator Ian Bishop hit out at a fan over a false remark drawing comparisons between Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant on his name. A user on X (formerly Twitter) had drawn comparisons involving the Rajasthan Royals captain and the Delhi Capitals skipper.
The two veteran keeper-batters are vying for a spot in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup and making a statement in the ongoing edition of the IPL with Samson scoring 246 runs in the five games while Pant aggregating 194 in six matches following his return to the professional cricket after 15 months owing to a horrific car accident.
During the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals, a Twitter user compared the two Indian keeper-batters by allegedly using Ian Bishop’s quotes on it. The post read, “Ian Bishop on live commentary. Anything Samson can do, Rishabh Pant can do it better. He’s spitting facts,” a user wrote alongside adding Bishop’s pic from the commentary box.
Stunned by the statement of the former West Indian great, another Twitter user asked the star commentator about the same to which Bishop gave a mouth-shutting reply, “You really think that’s how I operate?”.
The race for the wicket-keeper’s spot in the T20 World Cup team of India has escalated with many front-runners adding their contention with blistering performances in the ongoing IPL edition. Along with Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has once again hogged the limelight with his jaw-dropping death-overs hitting. Apart from him, LSG skipper KL Rahul too has put his name in the box for the World Cup squad.
