During the second round of the US Open 2025 game between Coco Gauff and Donna Vekic, the former bagged a comfortable 7-6, 6-2 win but there was a time when the American looked uncomfortable against the Croatian, who was looking solid in the opening set. During the first set, Gauff lost her serve at 4-4 and following this incident, the 21-year-old couldn’t hold her emotions and broke down in tears. During the ongoing competition, it’s been witnessed that Gauff has been experimenting with her serve but against Vekic, things didn’t go as per her plans.

Following her comfortable victory, Gauff appeared in the post-match conference and said that she was feeling terrible during the pressure situation. “It was the worst I’ve ever felt on the court. I think it was just nerves and just pressure, honestly, and I’m someone that usually can thrive on that. There’s been a lot on me this tournament, more than usual, which I expected coming in,” remarked Gauff. Following the opening set, Gauff looked relentless and dominated Vekic to snatch a comfortable win.

Coco Gauff got emotional during the on-court interview as well

Gauff was seen getting emotional during her on-court conversation as well. Noting New York’s spectators cheering for her, she expressed her gratitude towards them. “I’m just happy to be back on this court, and you guys bring me so much joy. Sorry… sorry,” added the youngster.

After getting the better of Ajla Tomljanovic and Donna Vekic, Gauff’s next opponent will be Poland’s Magdalena Frech in the third round of the US Open, set to be played on August 30. Both players squared off against each other twice in 2024 and Gauff emerged victorious on both occasions. This year, Gauff has been in superb form as she clinched the French Open title after beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
