Tennis legend and 24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic on Saturday, August 30 defeated Brit Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-7(4-7), 6-2, 6-3 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium to progress into the round four of the ongoing US Open 2025. A battle which lasted for two hours and 50 minutes, saw the Serbian struggle with some injury issues.
While the Serb overcame the Briton star, he also went on to etch his name in record books, becoming the oldest man to reach the last 16 in the tournament since America’s Jimmy Connors managed to achieve the feat at the same age in 1991. The four-time US Open champion, who returned to competitive tennis after going down against Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon 2025 semi-final, also joked about his fitness after his victory.
I’m as young as ever and strong..: Djokovic jokes of injury after struggling with back issues in RO32 match
Speaking after his victory over Cameron Norrie, the 38-year-old joked about his injury despite being spotted struggling with back issues. The Serb joked how his team wants him to be tested. "My team wants me to suffer on the court so I can get some more minutes spent in match play. It's good that I get tested. I hadn't played any matches since Wimbledon and it's been for us quite a long time, five to six weeks. I'm still trying to find my groove and my rhythm on court,” Djokovic began.
“You have some ups and downs. I guess you don't want to reveal too much (about the injury) to the rivals listening and watching. I'm good, man. I'm as young as ever and strong as ever," the legend added, leaving everyone in splits.
