After the acquisition of WWE by TKO nearly two years ago in the USA, there is an obvious strategy from one of the premier pro-wrestling promotions to host international events of great significance on a regular basis. With that, WWE has taken their Premium Live Events (PLEs) to many overseas destinations more frequently than before including countries like Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, England, and just last month, France hosted Clash in Paris PLE at the Paris La Defense Arena.
As per the recent report from Fightful Select, WWE is now interested in making their return to the Chinese market, with some of the top officials pushing for a PLE to happen in Hong Kong, China, in the near future. Notably, WWE last held an event in China in the city of Shanghai in 2019 before the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, and during 2016 to 2019, they had toured the country every year in September.
WWE has hosted eight events in China over the years
As per the RingSideNews, there have only been eight events hosted by WWE throughout its history in China, with six of them happening in Shanghai. Moreover, Sean Ross Sapp of the Fightful Select said about the latest development, “Numerous people of influence within WWE have pushed for WWE to hold a major event in China in the coming years. Specifically, we’ve heard Hong Kong mentioned as a location, with a PLE event discussed internally within WWE as a possibility.”
The next major WWE PLE in overseas destinations is set to happen at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, where Crown Jewel will go down on October 11, 2025. Just a couple of days ago, WWE announced their next European tour, which is set to go down in January, 2026, called the Road to Royal Rumble tour, with the aforementioned PLE set to happen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
