In one of the most blockbuster WWE SmackDown in recent memory, the main event of the show saw former Divas Champion AJ Lee return to the promotion in more than 10 years in front of a sold out Allstate Arena in Chicago. After her husband CM Punk got screwed over by Becky Lynch during the World Heavyweight Championship match involving Seth Rollins at WWE Clash in Paris Premium Live Event (PLE) last weekend and infamous segment on Raw the next night, AJ Lee arrived to the scene to even the odds and how.
Prior to the epic AJ Lee return, Seth Rollins began the main event segment of WWE SmackDown in Chicago from the stands at the Allstate Arena, tearing into CM Punk before his wife Becky Lynch did the same upon making her way to the ring. It was only a matter of time before CM Punk made his presence felt in his hometown and told Becky Lynch to her face about how he could have anyone to help him against her, including his friends and sisters, even the likes of Rhea Ripley and Bayley.
It ultimately led to Lynch slapping and butting her head against Punk’s chest before the latter left the ring and said that while he won’t put his hand on a lady, he knows somebody who will, bringing out AJ Lee after a decade long wait.
AJ Lee took out Becky Lynch on her WWE return at SmackDown
Becky Lynch felt scared to see AJ Lee in living colour but she rushed the former Divas champion with a double leg takedown and ground punches after going face-to-face with her inside the ring. When Lynch tried to run away, Lee grabbed her jacket before mat slamming her into delivering mounted punches and a huge slap for good measure to a rocking reception from the Chicago fans.
After Becky Lynch managed to run away to the entrance ramp area, avoiding a further attack, Seth Rollins got to his wife in a flash from the stands prior to them seething there while CM Punk and AJ Lee stood tall inside the ring.
