West Indies legend Chris Gayle recently spoke to renowned journalist Shubankar Mishra and revealed that he wanted to leave the Punjab Kings (PBKS) camp after getting mistreated by the franchise during the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. In the chat with Shubhankar, Gayle said that he never felt depressed in his life but during his stint with Punjab in 2021, he got disrespected which took a toll on his mental health.

In the recent interview, the 45-year-old said that he had a chat with the then-PBKS head coach Anil Kumble and also broke down while having the conversation.“I called him (Anil Kumble) and had a one-on-one talk to him, you know, actually breakdown as well, literally a breakdown when I was talking to him because I was really hurt. Oh yeah I cried and I was disappointed with Anil and how the entire thing was actually run, the franchise was actually run at that time and I said listen man thank you,” remarked the 45-year-old.

In the last season of his Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2021, the Windies legend played 10 matches for Punjab and amassed 193 runs at a strike rate of 125.32. Following that season, Gayle didn’t feature in the cash-rich league again. Following IPL 2021, he showed up for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2021. It marked his last international assignment for the Caribbean team.

Discussing Gayle’s batting numbers for PBKS, the left-handed batter was active for the franchise from 2018 to 2021, and during his stint, he hoarded 1339 runs in 41 matches at a strike rate of 143.20. He also scored a hundred and 10 fifties during the four seasons. In the IPL 2018 auction, the southpaw was picked up by Punjab, for his base amount of INR 2 Crore.
