Opener Abhishek Sharma has been in brilliant form with his bat in the Asia Cup 2025. In India’s magnificent campaign so far, the southpaw has made bowlers his bunny. Amassing 309 runs in six matches at a breathtaking strike rate of 204.63, he is the highest run-getter in the tournament. India played two games against Pakistan in the competition and on both occasions, Abhishek emerged as a nightmare for the Green Army’s bowlers. Pakistan's mainstay bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf have struggled against the 25-year-old. In the final against the Men in Green in Dubai, eyes will be set on the opener again. India fans will expect Abhishek to step up in the big game and deliver another extraordinary start to the team.
Legend Sunil Gavaskar feels Abhishek won’t let the opportunity slip in the final but if that happens, the World Cup 1983 champion wants skipper Suryakumar Yadav to step up, give himself time to assess conditions and then attack Pakistan bowlers. “He’s undoubtedly a class player. All I would suggest is that he give himself three or four deliveries in the middle to assess the conditions—check for pace, bounce, or turn. Watching from the dugout and stepping onto the field can feel very different,” said Gavaskar on India Today.
Suryakumar Yadav’s batting numbers in the Asia Cup 2025
In the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav has struggled to be among the runs. He has hoarded only 71 runs in five innings of six matches at an egregious strike rate of 107.57. These numbers do not justify his reputation and he will be expected to be produce an effective knock against the Men in Green in the final.
Suryakumar's bat has remained quiet in this competition but he has been exceptional as a skipper. On Sunday, he will endeavour to guide India to the title win and break into the record books with MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who have won the continental tournament while captaining India.
