During a Sports Tak podcast episode on April 2, 2026, Yuvraj Singh offered some clarity on his current connection with Shubman Gill. He admitted that although he used to mentor Gill closely, their interactions are less frequent now. Yuvraj pointed out that the dynamic has shifted as Gill's career has advanced.

Yuvraj said in the teaser that "Shubman was already playing for India" when he first began working with him and Abhishek Sharma. Because Gill has already reached a certain level of maturity and success, Yuvraj feels he needs less constant guidance compared to younger players. He characterised his current approach as being present when required, rather than keeping a constant watch. "I don't talk to Shubman Gill that much anymore," he explained, because Gill is now "smarter" and has already cultivated a solid work ethic.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma was seen practising a lot under Yuvraj Singh before the 2024 IPL, which also turned out to be the breakthrough season for Sharma as he hit one of the fastest fifties in that season. In his recent Sports Tak podcast appearance on 2 April 2026, Yuvraj elaborated on the structured plan he created for Abhishek roughly four years ago.

Yuvraj’s 4-year roadmap for Abhishek Sharma

Yuvraj set specific targets for Abhishek, promising him that if he followed certain technical and mental protocols for four years, his talent would inevitably take him to the Indian national team. Yuvraj noted with pride that Abhishek fulfilled this goal in exactly 4 years and 3 months when he made his India debut. Yuvraj also expressed joy on his student’s success in the last four years.

Sharma, though, didn’t perform well throughout the tournament when he was selected for the T20 World Cup squad. He stood up when the team needed him the most during the finals and scored by hitting 21 balls with a score of 52. Despite some early-season struggles for SRH, Yuvraj remains a vocal advocate for him, recently questioning why Abhishek has not yet been given the SRH captaincy despite his long-term loyalty and leadership at the state level.
