Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets in Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh, successfully chasing down a massive target of 215 to book their third IPL Finale berth. Shubman Gill led the charge with a spectacular 104 off 53 balls, securing a finale date against the defending champions. Batting first, the Royals posted a competitive total of 214 with the loss of six wickets, owing to key contributions from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ravindra Jadeja, and Donovan Ferreira.
In response, GT rode on the crucial opening-wicket partnership by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, and chased the target seamlessly with 8 balls remaining. Skipper Gill scored a blazing century, while Sai Sudharsan supported him with a solid 58-run knock. With this, the Titans recorded the highest run chase in IPL playoffs history.

Will go on to do well in his career- Riyan Parag on Viabhav Sooryavanshi after RR’s defeat
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a historic, record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign with the Rajasthan Royals. He amassed 680 runs in 15 innings at an astonishing strike rate of 242.85, blasting an all-time tournament record of 65 sixes and scoring 521 runs inside the powerplay overs alone. Veterans, fans and teammates have showered the young lad with appreciation.
After the defeat against GT, RR skipper Riyan Parag, in the post-match presentation, said the score was defendable, but as a team, they couldn’t defend it. He further appreciated Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his efforts and wished him luck for his future endeavours.
“ I can’t put it into words; there’s one way where you slog and score runs. But he doesn’t slog, you could see his innings today- he calculates and plays his shots. I can’t say how, but hopefully, he will go on to do well in his career, do well for Rajasthan Royals, and win us a second title,” Riyan Parag said.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned his maiden India A call-up for the upcoming one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka.
