
India beat arch rivals Pakistan by 61 runs in the previous match to ensure they qualify for the Super 8 stages. Today after the result of the Zimbabwe and Ireland match it has officially been confirmed as to which are the teams that India will face in the Super 8. It was a crucial match between Zimbabwe and Ireland which ended up with no result due to rain and both teams shared a point. With that point, Zimbabwe reached five points and qualified for the Super 8 and Australia were eliminated.
The Super 8 groups were already decided based on pre-seeding and it was just a matter of which teams qualify. So now with Australia eliminated, Zimbabwe will official replace Australia in the Super 8 fixture. India are grouped along with West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe for the Super 8 stages. India will be facing South Africa in their first Super 8 fixture and this match will be played at Ahmedabad. Team India will then travel to Chennai and face Zimbabwe in the next Super 8 match at Cheapauk. In their last Super 8 fixture, India will face off against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and this will be played on March 1.
The top 2 teams from this group of Super 8 stages will go to the semi-finals. Ahead of the tournament it was expected that Australia will be in the Super 8 and India will face off against them but due to their poor performance Australia have been eliminated in group stage and Zimbabwe have replaced them. India are in a tough group with South Africa and West Indies playing some good cricket.
