India's T20I vice captain Shubman Gill is all set to be named in the Indian squad for the series against South Africa starting December 9.
As per reports from Times of India it has been reliably learnt that Gill has already had a couple of batting sessions and his workload will be gradually increased in the coming days. Fielding and catching drills have also been added to his schedule as the medical team at the COE is in no mood to take any chances with Shubman Gill. He is yet to receive the clearance from COE but that will happen once he undergoes a match simulation within 48 hours. As of now he is all set to link up with the squad on December 6 and he will be named in the squad with subject to fitness note.
It all will depend on team management and they could rest him for the opening T20I but he is highly likely going to take part in some matches of the series as India is looking to build a settled squad for the T20I World Cup which will be played next year.
Gill injured his neck during the first innings of the Kolkata Test vs South Africa and missed the next game in Guwahati and was also ruled out of the ongoing three-ODI series vs the same opposition. He was advised rest by a spine specialist in Mumbai and has been away from action since.
Shubman Gill has played 33 T20Is and scored 837 runs. He has formed a good pair with Abhishek Sharma at the top for India and he will be keen to get some game time.
