As the IPL 2021 began in Chennai in emphatic style, it looked like that even the commentators couldn't control their excitement on Friday. As the players were playing a hard-fought encounter on the field, there was an extremely funny incident happening off the field at the same time.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan shows his funny side

One of the most famous commentators in India, former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan is often known for his tactical analysis and deep insights about the game. However, the 55-year-old also showed his humorous side as Mumbai Indians were facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.

As his co-commentator Danny Morrison was praising the Australian cricketers during the match, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was quick to point out that he was not an Aussie, but a Kiwi instead. The Indian commentator said, “Just because you stay in Brisbane doesn’t make you Australian.”

Star-studded commentary panel

The English commentary panel for the season opener had a lot of former cricketers in the studio. Apart from Laxman Sivaramakrishnan and Danny Morrison, they were joined by some famous voices in cricket in the form of Mark Nicholas , Matthew Hayden, Murali Kartik and Lisa Sthalekar.

As the commentators had a fun time in the box, the cricketers also produced some thrilling action on the field. Harshal Patel's (5/27) brilliant spell of bowling restricted defending champions Mumbai Indians to a total of 159/9 in the first innings.
