In a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar, seated alongside captain Rohit Sharma, announced the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played in Pakistan and the UAE. Most of the names in the squad were on expected lines, but with a lot of good options at the disposal of the Indian selectors, there were a few quality performers who missed out on a spot to play in the Champions Trophy.

Karun Nair has been in the form of his life in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, scoring a whopping 752 runs in seven matches while being dismissed only once, striking it at 125.96. His performances with the bat and as captain were instrumental in helping Vidarbha reach the final of the tournament, which is currently underway against Karnataka, but despite that, the Indian selectors didn’t pick him in the Champions Trophy squad because of the team’s stacked middle order in ODI cricket.
