The Indian mixed pair of Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol clinched the eighth silver medal in shooting after they lost the gold medal contest against China's Zhang Bowen and Jiang Ranxin in the 10-metre air pistol mixed team event on Saturday. The Indian pair went down 14-16 against Zhang and Jiang's Chinese pair in the Asian Games 2023.
The Indian mixed pair kicked off the gold contest against the Chinese pair on a high taking a 4-0 lead after the second series while the third series was shared between the two teams with a score of 19.8. After the seventh series, Jiang's sensational performance helped China to level the Indian pair at 7-7.
India went on to take the lead again as Sarabjot's two shots - 10.8 and 10.5 helped India win the next two series. However, the Chinese side maintained their composure to win the next three rounds as the neck-and-neck competition continued till the 14th series. Both teams shared 20.3 points each in the 14th round to end the series at 14 apiece.
In the final series, China (21) marginally defeated India (20.4) to claim the gold medal while India settled for the silver in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event on Saturday. Sarabjot and Divya's pair won the 19th medal for India in shooting while it was the country's 34th overall medal at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou.
