The Indian contingent in squash had a great day on October 3, Tuesday as the mixed doubles pair of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu and Abhay and Anahat Singh advanced into the semifinals. With the win in their respective doubles fixtures, both also assured India of a medal.
While Dipika Pallikal and Sandhu breezed past Philippines pair of Jemyca-Andrew in Pool A 2-1, Anahat and Abhay Singh beat the South Korean duo Yeonsoo-Dongjun 2-1 in Pool D. The Pallikal and Sandhu pair beat their Philippines opponent 7-11, 11-5, 11-4, Anahat and Abhay went past their Korean duo 11-4, 8-11, 11-1 to register a dominant win.
The Indian mixed doubles pair of Abhay and Anahat will square off against Malaysian pair of Binti and Bin Mohd. O n Wednesday, 4 October.
Saurav Ghosal confirm medal in men’s singles
The Indian veteran Saurav Ghosal cruised past his Japanese opponent Ryunosuke Tsukue 3-0 to advance into the semifinals of the men’s singles event. The 37-year-old beat his opponent 11-5, 12-10, 11-3 to continue his dominant run at the Asian Games.
It is to be noted that Ghosal has won a singles medal in every edition of the Games since 2006.
