Chicago Fire have shown keen interest in signing star Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne, who will leave the English club following the end of the season. The 33-year-old Belgian is looking to work across Europe and outside as well. In recent times, legendary players Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar have been serving clubs based outside Europe. Ronaldo is a member of Al-Nassr FC, which competes in the Saudi Pro League. Messi, who led Argentina to the World Cup 2022 victory, has been an essential part of Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Last month, De Bruyne confirmed that he will part ways with City as ‘The Blues’ refused to give him a new offer, with the aim to build the squad for the future. Following that, Bruyne is voraciously looking for new offers. In a recent development, as claimed by ESPN, MLS team Chicago Fire are eager to have a conversation with the midfielder. The Chicago based team have an 'inside track' on the Herons and feel that Inter Miami won’t utilise their option as Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets are already holding their designated player spots. With Bruyne open to move outside Europe, Chicago are pondering signing the Belgian veteran.

Fire boss Gregg Berhalter alludes at bringing the star Belgian player

Fire boss and former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has also expressed his desire to get De Bruyne in the club. Speaking to the media previous month, Berhalter remarked, "I think that in a perfect world you'd be able to invest across the entire roster and say, 'OK, we can bring in world-class players in every position,' but it's not perfect. There's a salary cap, there's a limited amount of designated players. So I think the most sense is to bring in an attacking player.”

He also added, "Someone that can change the game consistently from an attacking end and can work with the offensive weapons we already have to bring out more in them and help them continue, and overall help the team both on and off the field."
