Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are highly likely to get new investors in the near future. The five-time champions failed to play as per their reputation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and concluded their campaign as the worst team in the season. It was the first instance in the history of the league that Chennai ended their season at the bottom of the tally. As per Khel Now sources, a distinguished business group is keen to invest in the Yellow Army. According to sources, the Indian conglomerate that has shown interest, possesses a multi-dimensional business in India, besides multi-sports investments.

The deal might be a minor stake, a major stake, or a complete takeover of CSK. Currently, the franchise is under the possession of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL). However, there are also other parties who have the stakes in the franchise. The India Cements Shareholders’ Trust, Sri Saradha Logistics Private Limited, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), and Reliance Capital Trustee are also part of the franchise.

“CSK are looking to bring new investors within the next three years. A large Indian conglomerate with multi-dimensional business in India, alongside multi-sports investment, has shown interest. There is no clarity of structure of the deal at this stage. It could be a complete takeover or majority stake at the franchise,” claimed Khel Now source.

CSK’s rich history in IPL over the years

Chennai are the most-successful franchise in the league as they are the only team along with Mumbai Indians (MI) to win five trophies. All their title success came under MS Dhoni’s leadership. The 2011 World Cup-winning captain, Dhoni has played a vital role in Chennai’s success and popularity.

After guiding Chennai to their fifth title win in 2023, Dhoni stepped down as skipper and handed the reins of the side to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Gaikwad is yet to prove his leadership prowess as he has been ineffective as Super Kings’ captain thus far.
