In the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy held at the iconic Lord’s in London, Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal looked completely out of rhythm. In both innings, he fell against England’s premier pacer Jofra Archer, who was making a comeback in red-ball cricket after four-and-a-half years. The young batter’s flop show cost India eventually as the visitors lost the game by 22 runs. Noting Jaiswal’s batting in the second innings, former India batter Robin Uthappa said that the southpaw didn’t look comfortable from the first ball of the match.
"Yashasvi was genuinely just not comfortable from the word go. You know the first ball that he played, you know, it was like that it was a cut short ball and he would have been all over it, under normal circumstances and he just went there and then he like he kind of got stuck for a second and then he was like should I play? Should I not play and then he left it. Right. He's very decisive with his shot selection and that for me was like that doesn't doesn't look like a decent start," remarked Uthappa on his YouTube channel about how Yashasvi Jaiswal didn't chose the best possible shot to play against Jofra Archer in the second inning of Lord's Test, which led to his downfall without troubling the scorers.
Kumar Sangakkara also raised questions on Jaiswal’s batting
Before Uthappa, Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara also raised questions on Jaiswal’s batting in the second innings of the third game. The 23-year-old top-order batter became the victim of Archer after accumulating a seven-ball duck.
"Watching Jaiswal in the first over that he faced, he didn't look comfortable, he didn't look watchable. He has spent a long time at short leg for India, and he has come out looking a bit jaded," said Sangakkara after witnessing Jaiswal’s failure in the first innings. Earlier, in the first innings, the India opener got dismissed after scoring only 13. England fast-bowling spearhead Archer got him caught at the hands of Harry Brook, who was deployed in the slip area.
