Glenn Phillips, the New Zealand all-rounder, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season after suffering a groin injury while being a substitute fielder for Gujarat Titans (GT) in one of their recent matches. The 28-year-old didn’t get a chance to make a single first-team appearance in the 2025 season for his new franchise GT, and as per the official statement from the IPL, he has made his return to New Zealand.
Notably, Glenn Phillips picked up the groin injury while being a substitute fielder for GT against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2025 season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 6. While GT went on to get the better of SRH in the one-sided contest by seven wickets with 20 balls to spare, their star cricketer couldn’t manage to recover from his injury in the last few days, and now, he is not going to be a part of the team for the remainder of the ongoing season.
GT haven't named a replacement for Glenn Phillips yet
As of this writing, GT haven’t named a replacement for Glenn Phillips, while at the same time, it is important to note that their fast bowler Kagiso Rabada isn’t available to them either. The South African had left for home for personal reasons on April 3 after making a couple of appearances for Gujarat in the IPL 2025 season, and his return to the league isn’t confirmed either.
It has led to a situation of sorts at GT wherein they have only five overseas players, including the likes of Jos Butttler, Rashid Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat, available for them to select a maximum of four for an IPL match this season. Out of the five aforementioned players, Gerald Coetzee is returning from injury, which had forced him to miss the SA20 and the ICC Champions Trophy this year already.
