Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting expressed his displeasure over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s "time wasting" antics towards the final moments of the first session of the third day of The Oval Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Moments ahead of lunch, Jaiswal was seen limping while pointing at his hamstring. The delay by Jaiswal resulted in time wastage and ensured that it was final over prior to lunch. When the India opener walked towards the pavilion after the opening session, he seemed completely fine while walking. Noting the youngster, England players didn’t keep calm and the battle of words started between Jaiswal and Ben Duckett. However, Shubman Gill jumped into the scene and took Jaiswal towards the pavilion.
Ponting called out Jaiswal for his antics in the final over of the first session. He also highlighted how Team India complained about the delaying tactics of England openers in the Lord’s Test. "I didn't like what I saw there with wasting time in that last over. Especially at the back of what happened at Lord's when India complained about what the English batters did," said Ponting to Sky Sports.
Ricky Ponting thinks India need to deliver the target of 350+ to England
Ricky Ponting believes India are required to give a target of 350+ to England to pull of the victory and end the series in a stalemate. Noting India’s condition until the second session of the fifth day, Ponting said, "Not safe, not safe yet. I think they are gonna want 350 to be honest. One of the reasons that the scores are trending up is the workload on the bowlers. England with only three seamers India with only three seamers, they did such a great job for them yesterday. Spin played no part in the game yet. Hasn’t looked like it’s going to turn at all. I think they are gonna get as many as 350+ as far as I am concerned."
As of writing, India are 337/7, with Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten 45 off 65) and Washington Sundar (unbeaten six off nine) at the crease. Both all-rounders scored centuries in the last Test played in Manchester.
