Indian cricketing star Rishabh Pant is set to return to the Indian Premier League as a specialist batter and the captain of the Delhi Capitals in 2024. Pant has been out of action since his horrific car accident in December 2022 that sidelined him for close to 15 m onths. Since then, Pant has been recovering at the National Cricket Association in Bengaluru.
The wicketkeeping batter has pushing to get back in shape and was confirmed to be part of the upcoming IPL by the DC Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly and Head Coach, Ricky Ponting but no clarity was provided on his possible role with the team. Addressing this aspect, as report reveals that Pant will be leading the Capitals and play as a specialist batter.
Cricbuzz further reported that Pant was recently involved in a warm-up game in Alur, near Bengaluru where he showcased a lot of progress in his fitness. The also claims that mobility has not been hindered with the 26-year-old managing run with agility and freedom.

Speaking about Risbhabh Pant's return to the IPL, Ricky Ponting spoke about how the Indian star is extremely eager and confident about playing in the IPL. He said, "Rishabh is very confident that he's going to be right to play," Ponting said. "In what capacity we're not quite sure yet. You would have seen all the social media stuff, he's up and about and running well. But in saying that we're only six weeks away from the first game as well. So we're not sure if we'll get wicketkeeping out of him this year."
"But I'll guarantee if I asked him now he'll say, 'I'm playing every game, I'm keeping every game and I'm batting at No.4.' That's just what he's like, but we'll keep our fingers crossed. He's such a dynamic player. He's obviously our captain. We missed him incredibly last year."
