Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a convincing 83-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 25. At the toss, Chennai captain MS Dhoni emerged victorious against his counterpart Shubman Gill and elected to bat first. The Yellow Army posted 230/5 in 20 overs, riding on the rapid knocks from Ayush Mhatre (34 off 17), Devon Conway (52 off 35), and Dewald Brevis (57 off 23). Prasidh Krishna bowled the best spell for GT as the pacer splurged only 22 runs in his four-over spell and also picked up the two crucial wickets of Mhatre and Brevis.

Chasing the humongous target, GT lost three batters within the first powerplay. Titans skipper Shubman Gill departed in the third over of the innings after scoring only 13 off nine. Jos Buttler also followed his captain to the pavilion after amassing five runs off seven balls. Sherfane Rutherford went back to the dugout after scoring a four-ball duck. Except for Sai Sudharsan (41 off 28) and Arshad Khan (20 off 14), no GT batter showed fighting spirit against CSK’s extraordinary bowling, and the IPL 2022 champions got folded on 147 in 18.3 overs. Anshul Kamboj grabbed 3/13 figures in his 2.3-over spell and emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the match.

IPL 2025 points tally gets intriguing following GT’s defeat

With GT's comprehensive loss against Chennai, the IPL 2025 points table has become interesting as any top four side can reserve the top two spots. Mumbai Indians (MI), who are holding the number four position on the tally with 16 points earned through eight wins in 13 matches, will end at the top of the tally if they succeed in beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the game to be held in Jaipur on May 26.

Mumbai have a solid net run rate of +1.292. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab also have the opportunity to end their league campaign at the top spots if they get the better of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and MI respectively.
