Top-ranked player Jannik Sinner displayed dominance against his compatriot Luca Nardi in the Wimbledon 2025. The 23-year-old bagged a comprehensive 6-4, 6-3, 6-0 victory on Court One and announced his arrival in the tournament with a bang. He beat the fellow Italian in one hour and 48 minutes. Sinner, who lost the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz earlier this month, is chasing his first Wimbledon title. Sinner started this year with the incredible Australian Open title victory, beating Germany Alexander Zverev in the final of the distinguished tournament. Following this win, Sinner will next take on the 93rd-ranked Australia’s Aleksander Vukic in the second round of the competition on July 2.
Following the sensational victory, Sinner emphasised on moving on from the French Open’s loss and enjoying the game. “New tournament, new chances, new challenges," Sinner said, reflecting on his French Open loss. You have one opponent at a time, so obviously I try to keep going and enjoy playing here. If you don't enjoy playing on these courts, I don't know where you will enjoy [it]. I'm very happy to be here and let's see what is coming," said Sinner following his maiden win in Wimbledon 2025.
Jannik Sinner outclassed Luca Nardi and stood tall eventually
Luca Nardi exhibited fighting spirit in the first set and succeeded in escaping the first five break points he confronted. However, Jannik Sinner looked relentless and took his seventh opportunity to bag the breakthrough and win the opening set. After the victory in the maiden set, Sinner looked extremely confident and ended the second set in just fourty minutes.
Nardi failed to counter Sinner’s brisk, potent and precision hitting. In the final set, the youngster hammered his fellow countryman to record a third-set whitewash. Sinner concluded the game with 28 winners with only 17 unforced errors. His performance corroborates why he has advanced to the quarter-finals of every Wimbledon edition held in the last three years.
