Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, spoke about the departure of left-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from the Merseyside club and the response from the fans in the immediate aftermath. The 57-year-old pointed out the recent incident involving Alexander-Arnold, wherein he was booed by the Liverpool faithful after coming off the bench at Anfield during a 2-2 draw against Arsenal earlier this month in the Premier League.
The professional career of Trent Alexander-Arnold began under Jurgen Klopp during his tenure at Liverpool a few years ago, and he was a part of the team which won the first League title in 2019-20 after a 30-year wait. But, just a season after Klopp left Liverpool managerial post to Arne Slot, Alexander-Arnold has also confirmed his decision to leave the Merseyside club at the end of the season on a free transfer.
I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly off: Jurgen Klopp
During a LFC Foundation fundraiser event on Friday, May 23, where Jurgen Klopp arrived with a signed Trent Alexander-Arnold jersey for auctioning, he gave his take on the 26-year-old getting booed by the club fans. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I don't want to tell you what you have to think. I can tell you what you think is wrong. I don't tell you you should not be angry, you should not be disappointed, I tell you don't forget. This club doesn't forget.”
Klopp also ended up sharing his first reaction to the boos from Liverpool faithful towards Alexander-Arnold, “I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly [television] off. Honestly, I could not have been more disappointed at this moment. And he highlighted the Liverpool-born player's commitment to the club and his best moments during Klopp's spell as manager. He gave absolutely everything and wears the Liverpool badge in the skin.”
Moreover, it is widely reported that English left-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid before the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 next month.
