Former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth has launched an acrimonious attack on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after witnessing their fifth loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chennai lost their fifth straight game in the competition after registering an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Batting first after losing the toss, the Men in Yellow recorded their third-lowest total in the history of the league after racking up only 103/9 in 20 overs. Kolkata chased down the target in just 10.1 overs and handed Chennai a drubbing.

Noting Chennai’s underwhelming batting performance against defending champions in the first powerplay, Srikkanth refused to hold himself and said batting looked like practice for a test match. He also suggested CSK to add Prithvi Shaw to the side at the time of crisis. "One of CSK's worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it's running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it?, Even chaos is a strategy?" wrote Srikkanth on X.

MS Dhoni makes ineffective comeback as CSK skipper

With MS Dhoni taking over the leadership role, CSK fans were watching the match against KKR with hope of victory. However, Chennai’s fortunes didn’t change as lackluster batting played an essential role in handing over the game to reigning champions. CSK’s previous night’s score was their lowest total against KKR in IPL.

Dhoni, who was playing as captain against Kolkata, came to bat at number nine and looked completely out of rhythm. The 43-year-old played four deliveries but scored only one run from his bat. The veteran will be expected to showcase his ferocious side in CSK’s upcoming matches. CSK are currently in the ninth position on the points tally with just one win and five losses.
