Former India opener Virender Sehwag gave a brutal response when he was asked about Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stand-in captain MS Dhoni’s dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. In the 16th over of the match, Sunil Narine’s delivery crashed onto MS Dhoni’s pads following which he was declared out by the on-field umpire on the KKR spinner’s appeal. The decision was reviewed following which the visual displayed a tiny spike in UltraEdge when the ball passed the bat. However, the third umpire didn’t flinch and raised his finger. With this decision, CSK lost the eighth wicket in the form of Dhoni, who could score only one run off four balls.
After the game, Sehwag appeared on Star Sports’ post-match show and was asked whether the result of the game could’ve been different if Dhoni was declared not out? Replying to the question, Sehwag said,"I don't think it would have made a difference had MS Dhoni been given not out. Had he been not out, how much would CSK have gotten to? Maximum 130? So, by when did KKR chase down the target (10. 1 overs)? We would have analysed the match at 11:30 pm instead of now. That would have been the only difference." The former India opener’s answer tickled all the participants in the show.
CSK loses their fifth game in a row in IPL 2025
Chennai’s playoff chances are now in jeopardy as the Men in Yellow have lost five games on the trot after bagging only one victory in their opening game against Mumbai Indians (MI). In the crisis, veteran Dhoni will have to do something extraordinary as skipper to bring Super Kings back to winning ways.
CSK’s batting attack has looked disorganised this season. Notable names such as Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Rahul Tripathi, and Shivam Dube have failed to deliver impactful numbers to the team. In the next match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the CSK team management will want them to showcase their mettle.
