David Beckham’s side earned a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC at the Chase Stadium, courtesy of Lionel Messi’s late first half goal. While the goal remains important in context to the result of the match, it was an even special moment for Messi himself as he shattered the record of becoming the player with the highest goal-contributions in MLS history with it coming in 38 fewer games.
The previous record was held by his Argentina team-mate Gonzalo Higuain, who reached Messi’s tally of 44 goal contributions in 67 appearances. Lionel Messi has managed to pull off this feat in a mere 29 regular season matches in the MLS, showing his pure class. This record is just another one added to the bag for Messi as he has previously also broken the record for becoming the highest goal-scorer in Inter Miami history.
Inter Miami on level terms with Toronto FC as they maintain their best ever season start
Inter Miami have drawn their latest MLS match to Toronto FC as they continue making their way into the best ever start to the MLS season. They have 4 wins and 2 draws in 6 matches and currently placed second in the table; one point below Columbus Crew, who have played one extra game. The match against Toronto saw two late first half goals as the teams struggled to find the back of the net in the second half.
Messi had scored another goal in the first half, which was eventually ruled out due to foul in the play leading up to the goal. Toronto finally broke the deadlock through Federico Bernardeschi’s goal, only to concede a leveller in the next two minutes from Lionel Messi.
