Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Litton Das has expressed his willingness to take on the role of the national team’s full-time T20I captain following a successful stint as a stand-in skipper. Das stepped in to lead the side during the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto and guided the team to a historic 3-0 T20I series sweep against West Indies in December 2024. It marked Bangladesh’s first-ever T20I series whitewash against the Caribbean side, a result that drew praise for Litton’s composed leadership and on-field strategies.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has since been weighing its options for permanent captaincy roles across formats, and Litton has made it clear that he is open to the responsibility. The BCB’s confidence in his leadership is reflected in his recent appointment as captain for the upcoming T20I series against the United Arab Emirates. Despite ongoing scrutiny over his individual batting form in white-ball formats, particularly T20s, the board appears to be prioritizing his leadership skills and the positive team environment he fosters.
I am ready to do it: Litton Das on taking up full-time T20 captaincy
Litton, speaking to media after the West Indies series, credited the team’s bowlers for their tactical awareness and maturity, stating that their ability to set their own fields and execute plans independently made his job easier. “I didn’t feel much pressure. The bowlers took a lot of responsibility on their own, and when a team functions like that, the captain’s work becomes easier,” he said. This sense of collective accountability on the field, Litton believes, was crucial to their success and a sign of a maturing squad.
When asked about the possibility of taking on the T20I captaincy full-time, Litton did not shy away from the idea. “If the Bangladesh Cricket Board asks me to lead, then I am ready to do it. There is no reason [not to] and I am enjoying it,” he affirmed. He also stressed the importance of playing with a clear mindset, adding, “As long as I enjoy the game and fulfill my responsibilities, I’m happy to take on that role.”
