The fifth and final Test match of the five-match series is currently underway at the Kennington Oval in London. While both sides are fighting to get a result in their favour, the match currently is well poised with India posting a 52-run lead at the end of day two. After India were bowled out inside the first 30 minutes on day two of the fifth Test at The Oval on Friday, August 1, they then went onto restrict the home side at 247.
Thereafter, India cut down England’s 23-run lead and added 52 more runs at the close of day two’s play on the back of a brilliant comeback from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is at the crease on unbeaten 51. But during the second day, which was dedicated to late Graham Thorpe, the players from both teams stood up in support.
Mohammed Siraj picks Harry brook’s wicket with GT headband; wins hearts for his gesture
While the stadium observed a moment to honour the late England cricketer, star Indian pacer, Mohammed Siraj also paid tribute to the late legend as he donned the white headband with the initials of Thorpe ‘GT’ on it. Siraj, who is known to wear his heart on his sleeves, came up with a heartwarming gesture as he chose to wear the headband to honour the late legend, pictures of which have been making rounds on social media.
The gesture from Siraj came after he was earlier seen dedicating a wicket to late footballer Diogo Jota, who lost his life in a car accident earlier in July. It is to be noted that prior to the fourth Test, the England Cricket confirmed to dedicate day two of the fifth Test to Thorpe, who passed away last August. The ECB and England cricket team marked it as ‘A day for Thorpey’ as the stadium observed a minute’s silence while his wife Amanda and daughter Emma also rang the bell before the start of the play.
Born on August 1 in 1969, Thorpe passed away on August 4. He played 100 Tests, scoring 6744 runs at an average of 44.66 and featured in 82 ODIs, amassing 2380 runs.
