The 2019 World Cup clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan was a close one at Headingley on June 29. Three spinners from Pakistan, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafez and Shadab Khan bowled total 22 overs from the 50 overs as Pakistan restricted Afghanistan on 227/9. However, Afghanistan used a total four spin bowlers who bowled a total 38 overs and took the match to the last overs. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Samiullah Shinwari were spinners from the Afghan side. However, their efforts went in vain as Pakistan chased the target with just two balls remaining in the match. Total 60 overs were bowled by spinners in that game.

4. Pakistan vs West Indies, 1998 Champions Trophy quarter final: 60 overs

The spinners dominated again the quarter final match of the 1998 Champions Trophy (known as ICC Knockout at that time) in Dhaka on October 29. Bowling first, Pakistan used four spinners with the likes of Saqlain Mushtaq, Shahid Afridi, Saleem Malik and Arshad Khan who bowled total 35 overs combined out of 50 overs as the Windies posted 289/9. In reply, West Indies also used four spinners with the likes of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Carl Hooper, Keith Arthurton, and Rawl Lewis who bowled 25 overs combined. Total 60 overs were bowled in that game where West Indies defeated Pakistan by 30 runs.

The league match of the recently ended Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand was also dominated by the spin bowlers. Bowling first, New Zealand used three spin bowlers with the likes of skipper Mitcheel Santner, Michael Bracewell and Rachin Ravindra who bowled 25 overs combined as India posted 249/9. In reply, India used only two fast bowlers and four spinners, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy who went on to bowl 37.3 overs combined. Total 62.3 overs were bowled by spinners in that game where India won by 44 rus.

The semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia was also dominated by the spin bowlers. India again used four spinners with the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel who bowled 34 overs combined as Australia were bowled out for 264 runs. In reply, Australia used five spinners, Cooper Connolly, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha and Travis Head who bowled 31.1 overs combined. However, Australia couldn’t restrict India as the won the match by four wickets.
