Five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally broke their losing streak of five matches in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The MS Dhoni-led side defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets to put a stop of the latter’s winning streak. For CSK, an unbeaten partnership between Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni helped CSK chase the 167-run target with three balls to spare.
On the back of an unbeaten 37-ball 43 from Shivam Dube and a quickfire 26* from MS Dhoni, helped CSK register their second win of the season. Seeing the 43-year-old bring his tactical game knowledge in the front during CSK’s win, former Australia captain turned commentator, Michael Clarke also showered words of praise for the veteran wicketkeeper.
MS Dhoni is still the best wicketkeeper in world: Clarke
Speaking to the broadcasters after CSK’s close win over LSG in Lucknow, Clarke spoke highly of MS Dhoni. “It's always loud when MS Dhoni's in town. Look, his keeping does not surprise me. I've said it before, in my opinion, he's still the best wicketkeeper in the world. It's phenomenal how consistent he's been over a long period of time. I thought his captaincy was spot on tonight as well, the way he used both spinners through the middle, got through overs quick, built some pressure,” Clarke told Star Sports.
Furthermore, the 44-year-old also praised MS Dhoni’s captaincy, while highlighting on his good reading of situation and the timely rotation of bowlers and fielders alike. “The best thing that happened tonight was MS Dhoni's captaincy. It was phenomenal. He read the situation, he adjusted to the conditions, he bowled his spinners in tandem, exactly like MS Dhoni has done his entire career. He got them on, they rushed through the overs, they changed the pace of the game, they used the surface, they picked up wickets. I just think his experience out there on the field was defining tonight as captain,” Michael Clarke further added.
It is to be noted that in CSK’s last match, MS Dhoni inflicted three dismissals. While he stumped Ayush Badoni, he ran out Abdul Samad and completed a comfortable catch of LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, who looked good, having scored 63 off 49 deliveries. The yellow Army, who continues to reel at the bottom of the points table, will next take on arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20.
