Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been in a limelight from the last couple of days since the rumours of his retirement from Test cricket started surfacing. Reportedly, Kohli has told the BCCI that he wants to call off his Test career. However, the team management has asked him to continue as the Indian team will be needing his confidence for the upcoming England Test with Rohit Sharma already retired from the longest format. Now, an old interview of VIrat Kohli is going viral from 2013 where he talked about his aim of getting 10000 runs in Test cricket.
Currently, Virat Kohli has scored 9230 runs from 123 matches in his Test career so far. In these 123 matches, Kohli has scored 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He is now 770 runs away from reaching the milestone of 10000 Test runs but it won’t be possible if he retires from the format before the England tour. Making his Test debut in 2011, Kohli gave an interview to Aaj Tak in 2013 where he mentioned about his goal of completing 10000 runs in Test cricket.
“I don’t keep track of records at all. When I score a century in a match, I find out afterwards that it was the quickest to 10 centuries or something like that. So I only get to know about it after the match. Before the match, my focus is not on things like, ‘I have 5 innings left, and if I score 3 more centuries, I’ll set a record.’ I don’t think that way. My aim is to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, and that’s something I really want to achieve,” Kohli said on Aaj Tak’s ‘Seedhi Baat’ in 2013.
Virat Kohli is India’s all-time second highest run getter across format
Virat Kohli is just behind Sachin Tendulkar to be India’s all-time leading run scorer across formats. Having played 123 Tests, 302 ODIs and 125 T20Is in his career so far, Kohli has scored 27599 runs hitting 82 centuries and 143 half-centuries. However, talking about international cricket he comes behind Sachin and Kumar Sangakkara in the list.
Virat Kohli has already broken several records in his international career so far with one including becoming the first batter to score more than 50 centuries in ODI cricket. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in the list who had scored 49 centuries in his ODI career and has scored 51 centuries in his ODI career so far.
