On July 26, 2019, Ireland became the team with the seventh-lowest Test total at the time during a match played against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Batting first after winning the toss, England got bundled out on 85 in the first innings. Tim Murtagh, allying with Mark Adair, put up a disciplined bowling show and played the role of wrecker-in-chief. Murtagh clinched a fifer in his nine-over spell and emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the innings. Adair bowled only 7.4 overs and got three wickets. Boyd Rankin also picked up two wickets. From England, only Joe Denly, Sam Curran, and Olly Stone could score in double digits.
Following the total, Ireland scored 207 runs and took a 122-run lead after the first innings. Andy Balbrinie struck 55 runs off 69 balls and became the most-successful batter for the Irish side in the innings. Paul Stirling also scored 36 off 43. Stuart Broad, Olly Stone, and Chris Woakes bagged three wickets apiece. Moeen Ali also got one scalp. In the second innings, the hosts posted 303 runs. Jack Leach scored an impressive 92 runs from 162 balls while Jason Roy also hammered 72 off 78.

Pursuing a target of 182, the Irish side got folded at a score of 38. Woakes stepped up and played a vital role in his team’s scintillating win. The speedster, who went wicketless in the first innings, ended his 7.4-over spell, with 6/17 figures. In his spell, he got the better of Ireland's key batters William Porterfield, Paul Stirling, James McCollum, and Gary Wilson.
Stuart Broad also assisted Woakes and got four wickets in his eight overs. Jack Leach, who scored a superb 92 in the first innings, became the recipient of the player of the match (POTM) award.
