Ravindra Jadeja showed his great all-round skills as India defeated Sri Lanka by an inning and 222 runs in the first Test of the two-match series in Mohali on March 6, 2022. Jadeja went on to play his best knock in the Test format, scoring 175 runs and also scalped five wickets and four wickets respectively in both the innings. With this, Jadeja also became the sixth player in history to score more than 150 runs and take a five-wicket haul in the same Test match. 

Talking about the match, batting first, India posted 574 runs for the loss of eight  wickets in the first innings, with Ravindra Jadeja top scoring with 175*(228) runs, hitting 17 fours and three sixes. Apart from that, Rishabh Pant also contributed with 96(97) runs, hitting nine fours and four sixes while Hanuma Vihari (58 off 128) and Ravichandran Ashwin (61 off 82) also scored respective half-centuries. For Sri Lanka, Suranga Lakmal,  Vishwa Fernando, and Lasith Embuldeniya took two wickets each while Lahiru Kumara and Dhananjaya de Silva scalped a wicket each.

In reply to India’s 574 runs, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 174 runs with Pathum Nissanka top scoring with 61*(133) runs. India took a massive lead of 400 runs in the first innings. After scoring 175 runs with the bat, Ravindra Jadeja also shone with the ball registering figures of 5/41. Apart from that, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah also scalped two wickets each while Mohammed Shami put one in his bag. 

After getting enforced to follow-on, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 178 runs in the second innings as India wrapped up the Test match in just three days to take a lead of 1-0 in a two-match Test series.. Jadeja again shone with the figures of 4/46 and won player of the match for his all-round performance. Apart from that, R. Ashwin also scalped four wickets while Mohammed Shami put two in his bag.
