Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a memorable 6-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 61 of IPL 2025 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on May 19. In a match that carried massive playoff implications for LSG, it was SRH who delivered a spirited performance, chasing down a daunting 206-run target.
The foundation for SRH’s chase was laid by a breathtaking inning from Abhishek Sharma, who produced one of the most explosive knocks of the season. The young opener smashed 59 runs off just 20 deliveries, smashing 4 fours and 6 sixes, dismantling LSG’s bowling attack inside the powerplay. His innings, filled with audacious strokeplay and crisp timing, gave SRH early momentum and allowed the rest of the batting lineup to play with less pressure. Sharma’s intent and execution were flawless, and his contribution proved decisive in the final outcome.
LSG eliminated from playoffs race after defeat to SRH
Earlier, LSG had posted a commanding 205/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a dominant 115-run opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh looked in complete control during his 65 off 39 balls, while Markram added 61 off 38. Their efforts set a strong platform, and Nicholas Pooran capitalized with a fiery 45 off 26 deliveries.
SRH's chase, after Abhishek Sharma’s fireworks, saw Ishan Kishan contribute a solid 35 before falling to Digvesh Rathi, who picked up two quick wickets. Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis then anchored the middle overs with mature batting. Mendis retired hurt on 32, and Klaasen who departed for 47 had almost finished the job for SRH before Nitish Kumar Reddy and Aniket Verma kept their composure to steer SRH home with a calm finish.
