Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant suffered a painful injury on his foot during day one of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. While facing Chris Woakes during the 68th over of the Indian innings, Pant failed to time the shot on a yorker length as the ball ended up hitting his toe after which he was taken out of the ground on a mini ambulance.
It turned out to be a major blow for India as Rishabh Pant had to leave the field in middle of the innings. Now, as per the latest report by The Indian Express, Pant has been advised to rest for six weeks due to a fracture in his toe. However, the BCCI medical team is also checking if Pant can come to bat for the rest of the Indian innings after taking pain killers.
“The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak,” the BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Ishan Kishan to join Indian squad ahead of 5th Test
India have already been dealing with the injuries of Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Kumar. Now, Rishabh Pant, who hurt his finger while keeping the wickets during the Lords Test, now ended up hurting his toe and will sit out for the next six weeks. This also means that Pant will not be available for the fifth and the final Test against England which is scheduled to be played at The Oval, London from July 31 to August 4.
Now, as replacement for Pant, BCCI are likely to call Ishan Kishan for the fifty Test. Notably, Kishan can turn out to be a like-to-like replacement for Pant as he is also left-handed wicketkeeper batsman. Apart from that, Kishan also showed great form while playing for Nottinghamshire in County cricket recently.
