Former India tennis player Sania Mirza has backed India’s Operation Sindoor against terrorists based in Pakistan. The action was taken to teach dreaded terrorists the lesson for killing 26 men in the Pahalgam Attack on April 22. Following the operation on May 6, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) gave the responsibility to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh to deliver updates regarding India’s action against terror. The appointment of two officers for the media briefing won several hearts including the India tennis legend Sania’s as well.
Sania Mirza celebrated the briefing from the two decorated officers from the armed forces. She posted an Instagram story with a screenshot of an eminent Indian journalist Faye D’Souza’s post featuring both officers addressing the media along with foreign secretary Vikram Misri. Sania endorsed journalist Faye’s quote and wrote, "The messaging in this very powerful photo perfectly captures who we are as a nation." Mirza concluded her professional tennis career for India in February 2023. During her distinguished career, she bagged six grand slam titles.
Sania Mirza’s marriage to Shoaib Malik often made her a target for trolls
Sania Mirza has often received backlash for her marriage with former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik. Both prominent sporting figures married each other in 2010 and their marriage lasted 13 years as they parted ways with each other in 2023.
However, more than criticism, she has garnered attention and praise for hailing India’s effort on women empowerment with her Instagram story.
