Fo rmer India captain Sourav Ganguly shared his review of Maidaan, an Indian sports-drama film featuring Ajay Devgn in the lead. The movie is based on Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim and was released on the occasion of Eid, April 11. The m ovie revolves around the life of Abdul Rahim and highlights his tenure as the coach and manager of the Indian football team from 1950 to 1963, regarded as the golden era of Indian football.
Apart from Devgn, the film features Priyamani, Nitanshi Goel, Gajaraj Rao, and Rudranil Ghosh. It was jointly produced by Zee Studios, Bayview Projects, and Fresh Lime Films. Praising Devgn and the movie, the Indian cricketing great wrote, “Don't miss out on the cinematic experience of #Maidaan, a captivating portrayal of India's legendary football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim, and the golden era of Indian football.”
The tweet further read, “Witness the iconic Indian football stars brought back to life on the big screen in this must-watch Indian sports film.”
Earlier in the week, Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly backed Mumbai Indians’ new captain Hardik Pandya amidst the franchise’s captaincy saga. Ganguly had said that fans shouldn’t boo Pandya as the franchise decided to appoint him as the captain. Ganguly said, “I don’t think they should boo Hardik Pandya. The franchisee has appointed him as captain. That’s what happens in sport, whether you captain India or whether you captain your state or whether you captain your franchise, you are appointed as captain.”
Notably, Ganguly's side which saw Rishabh Pant returning to the helm this season has managed to win only two matches in the current season of the IPL thus far.
