Earning the praise from one's teammates is something that, though delightful, is still common. It happens all the time. But it becomes something to cherish and something to be really happy about when a true great of the game showers praise on you. And thanks to his innings of 114 not out, as seen on the opening day of the Test match against England at Edgbaston, India's Test captain Shubman Gill earned the praise of none other than the great Sachin Tendulkar.

This has been, we need to remember, Shubman Gill's very first tour to England, which means not only is he batting in some unfamiliar conditions but even batting amid pressure facing world class talents such as Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes. And then to have hit his recent second century in England is something to really cherish. He has, therefore, earned rich praise from the great Tendulkar, who took to X platform to acknowledge the Indian skipper.

Solid in defence: Sachin Tendulkar after Shubman Gill's ton on Day 1

Sharing a post on his X account, Tendulkar wrote "@ybj_19 (Jaiswal) set the tone from ball one. He was positive, fearless and smartly aggressive. @ShubmanGill was cool as ever, calm under pressure, solid in defence and in total control. Classy knocks from both. Well played, boys!"

Sachin Tendulkar without much doubt has been a batting idol and hero to even several of his competitors but this praise from the great man is surely enough to further motivate Shubman Gill, in red hot form.

What Gill must do well to remember is that the task right now is far from over. Surely, he has begun really well, but as the contest further opens up, staying at the wicket and scoring more runs will augur well for India. So far, the widely talented right hander has already scored 147 at Leeds, this latest hundred being a consecutive Test century for him. What's more? His Test run tally crossed 2000-runs while batting in England. Time to further capitalise and build on.
