We have seen many instances where the ball hits the stumps but the bails don’t light up in a rare incident, a ball hit the stump and went for a boundary on a free hit. In a WBBL match between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers, Piepa Cleary got a chance to hit a free hit against Stars’ bowler Annabel Sutherland.

However, Cleary got clean bowled while playing a ramp shot but as the luck would have it, the pace on the ball was so much that the ball went to the boundary and the Perth Scorchers got 4 runs.

Talking about the match,  Perth Scorchers endured a difficult game against the Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground and pulled off a thrilling win to remain unbeaten in WBBL.

They started off with a strong bowling effort and restricted the Stars to 9-110.  Piepa Cleary,  Lilly Mills and  Taneale Peschel picked up two wickets each. Whereas for the Stars,  Tess Flintoff scored a crucial  40 in  29 balls and was one of only two batters to score over 20 runs.

Then in the second innings, Melbourne retaliated with an incredible bowling display, as they reduced the Scorchers to  7-74 in the 16th over. But  as Perth need 37 off 27, Amy Edgar and Piepa Clear held their nerve to take the Scorchers home by two wickets with two balls to spare.

This was also the Scorcher’s third win from three games in the tournament. Whereas the Melbourne Stars suffered their second defeat in three matches. Now Perth will face the  winless Sydney Thunder at the WACA Ground on Saturday.
